U.S. Expats prefer to retire in Baja California

Baja California is quite popular among U.S. expatriates. According to BGVA Bancomer Research there are four cities in Baja Norte that are among the top 10 locales in Mexico for Amercan retirees. Over 46% of the respondents living in Mexicali (including the Sea of Cortez region), Ensenada, Tijuana and Rosarito identify themselves as U.S. citizens over the age of 50.

The study suggests U.S. expats choose Baja California because of its proximity to the U.S., (which makes trips north across the border easy); its coastal location, and for its unique culture which blends Mexican and American elements. Additional reasons Americans retire in Baja California are the great beaches located on both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, the many festivals & events, availability of world-class golf resorts, off-road races & excursions, ocean cruises from the port of Ensenada, wine country outings, power boating & sailing, sportfishng, whale-watching and gaming venues.
